I'm at Continental Divide Lodge, less than 140 miles to Johnson's Crossing and the river!!! Averaging about 19 miles a day. Had a great time with Gary Hanson, Jim Jewell, Don Corwin, and Jeff Brady last Saturday after passing Watson Lake.
Great waitress at Hwy. 37 junction, Ashlea. She was working her first night, having to deal with a huge hockey crowd (Go Oil!!!), a birthday party, and a bunch of Skagwegians. She asked what we were doing and we told her, and she said "wait a minute," and came back with a donation out of her tip jar. Also got one a couple day's earlier from Cindy Roland's folks. Passed it on to Jeff for the Clinic account, now up around $41,700, I'm
told.
We camped at a gravel pit that night, had a big fire. I was good but can't say the same for the others! The next day when we woke up, it was snowing!!! Only the fourth time the whole trip. The biker boys took off, but Jeff walked with me in the blowing snow for about nine miles before he had to head back to Skagway. Still have Gary along, but he heads home tomorrow. I'll miss him. He'll be calling KHNS with an update and Jeff is doing
something for the Skag News. Should be hookng up with my niece Kelly this weekend around Teslin town and arriving in JC the 6th or 7th, then shoving off the morning of the 8th. It's only a 2-2.5 hour drive from Skagway via the Tagish Road, and just an hour from Whitehorse. Hope to see as many folks there as possible!!! Wheat
